Indiana Jones

My students will want to check out the discussions about the influence of Indiana Jones on anthropologists and why they got into anthropology on two other blogs, Savage Minds and Nomadic Thoughts. The conversations are a lot of fun!
We saw Indy during Week #1 when I tried to suggest both that Indiana Jones is not anthropology but that anthropology can involve adventures of a certain kind. (I truly believe it is OK to appreciate the adventure in anthropology, even if Levi-Strauss thinks otherwise …)
And, in the interest of full disclosure, I was not attracted to anthropology by Indiana Jones … and I think I was intrigued by archaeology before I knew about Indy — Mesa Verde as an 11 year old will do that for you. Nevertheless, I continue to enjoy exploring places that are new to me with interesting people who know about those places and that is truly where I find anthropology’s adventure.
