Delgamuukw Guide

Posted by Tad McIlwraith on September 30th, 2005 filed in Court Cases

Canadian Aboriginal History News has a detailed post about the Delgamuukw Decision, its history, and significance. Called ‘A Guide to the Delgamuukw Decision,’ the post cites another website, Delgamuukw.org, which is dedicated to understanding and interpreting the BC and Canadian court decisions from the 1990s.

The Aboriginal History News post summarizes the Delgamuukw Decision under headings like:

  • Use of oral history to prove Aboriginal title
  • The test for proving Aboriginal title
  • The content of Aboriginal title
  • Constitutional Protection of Aboriginal Title
  • There’s lots more in the post and at Delgamuukw.org.

This is a site that explores the Aesthetic Realism method in anthropology, particularly cultural anthropology. It asks: (1) What do people of diverse cultures — in fact every culture — have in common? And (2) How does the desire to have contempt for what’s different from oneself, which is in every self, including every anthropologist, interfered with a true way of seeing people? By bring out the crucial importance of these two questions, this site opposes racism and the exploitation of many people by a few for profit, as it contributes to fundamental knowledge in anthropology and the social sciences generally.

Hi Arnold … thanks for your comment. Are you referring to your site (which I can’t access for some reason) or the Delgamuukw.org website? Your comment is provocative, presumably in either case.
