It was great to see Father Mouchet honoured at the Canada Winter Games this past week. He was asked to ski the honorary first lap of the cross-country ski course prior to competition. Father Mouchet is 89. He is a Whitehorse resident and life-long advocate for physical education on native reserves. I interviewed Father Mouchet last November in Whitehorse about his experiences living in Telegraph Creek and traveling throughout northern British Columbia during the 1950s. Our conversations were lively and richly rewarding for me given his connection to Tahltan-speaking peoples at a time when a limited number of written records exist.
